Tooro Kingdom, in collaboration with MTN Uganda, has unveiled the eagerly anticipated third edition of the Amasaza football tournament, which will include bicycle racing events.
The tournament will showcase nine teams representing the nine counties of Tooro Kingdom, while the bicycle races will welcome participation from hundreds of enthusiasts.
The launch ceremony, held at Mucwa, the Kingdom’s Parliament, was attended by dignitaries including Tooro Kingdom’s premier, Stephen Kiyingi Amooti, his First Deputy, ministers, MTN officials, and county chiefs, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
“The tournament serves as a platform to mobilize subjects for HIV sensitization and testing,” said Toro Kingdom Prime Minister Stephen Kiyingi Amooti.
Minister of Sports for Tooro Kingdom, Owekitinisa Enganjani Wandera Michael, revealed that the competition would extend to both football and bicycle racing, involving all nine counties of the kingdom.
“We have exciting prizes and cash rewards prepared for the victorious teams,” Minister Owek Enganjani Wandera Michael announced, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event.
Aggrey Byaruhanga, speaking on behalf of MTN, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting cultural institutions, expressing enthusiasm for their involvement in the tournament.
The teams have been organized into three groups: Group A comprises Mwenge South, Burahya, and Kitagwenda; Group B includes Ntoroko, Mwenge North, and Kyaka; and Group C features Bunyangabu, Kibale, and Fort Portal City. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on May 26, 2024, promising thrilling competition and cultural celebration.
