CAF Engages in Interpol Workshop on Major Event Safety and Security

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) is actively participating in Interpol’s Workshop on Major Event Safety and Security, organized through its Department of Safety and Security, currently underway in Doha, Qatar.

Commencing on Monday, April 29, and scheduled until May 1, 2024, the workshop convenes representatives from Interpol, Project Stadia, UNOCT, and nations including Qatar, Côte d’Ivoire, and Morocco, with CAF Head of Safety and Security Dr. Christian Emeruwa in attendance.

The primary focus of the workshop is to acquaint participants with Stadia’s capabilities and its support for ensuring safety and security at major events, with specific emphasis on the recently concluded TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2023 and AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

Threat and risk assessments conducted during the workshop have led to the development of safety and security conclusions for each event. Key topics addressed include crowd management plans, command and coordination, public and private security, as well as protective security measures.

Dr. Emeruwa provided insights into the security measures implemented during previous events, highlighting the challenges encountered in ensuring safety and security at CAF events. This candid discussion facilitated an open dialogue, stressing the significance of collective efforts in overcoming such challenges.

Preparations for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 were also discussed during the workshop, indicating a forward-looking approach to ensuring safety and security at future events.

The workshop serves as a crucial platform for CAF and other stakeholders to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and devise robust strategies aimed at upholding safety and security standards at major events.
