African Duo Tabitha Chawinga and Chiamaka Nnadozie Shine in French Women’s League Awards

Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga and Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie have been honored as the best player and best goalkeeper respectively in the French women’s league, marking a significant achievement for African representation in European football.

Chawinga wasted no time in leaving her mark upon her arrival in France, swiftly becoming a standout performer for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) following her transfer from Inter Milan last summer. Her remarkable season culminated in the prestigious award on Monday night, recognizing her exceptional contributions to PSG’s campaign.

In 25 appearances for PSG, Chawinga showcased her scoring prowess with 18 goals and contributed 10 assists while donning the iconic red and blue jersey. Notably, she etched her name in history as the first Malawian to score in a European competition, further solidifying her status as a trailblazer for African football.

Meanwhile, Chiamaka Nnadozie’s stellar performances for Paris FC earned her the title of the best goalkeeper in the French women’s league, dethroning Christiane Endler’s longstanding reign in the category. Nnadozie’s remarkable season included 10 clean sheets in 28 appearances, showcasing her prowess between the posts and earning her recognition for the first time in her career.

The accolades bestowed upon Chawinga and Nnadozie underscore the growing influence of African players in top-tier European leagues. Their achievements not only highlight their individual talents but also serve as inspiration for future generations of footballers from the continent, signaling a promising future for African representation on the global stage.
