Mamelodi Sundowns reaffirmed their status as South Africa’s football powerhouse by securing their seventh consecutive DStv Premiership title in commanding fashion. A resounding 5-1 triumph over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Thursday evening propelled Sundowns to their 17th overall championship, with an impressive six games remaining in the season.

The victory, characterized by a dominant second-half performance, underscores Sundowns’ unrivaled dominance in South African football, further solidifying their legacy as one of the country’s most successful clubs. Their unbeaten streak of 48 matches across the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns exemplifies their consistency and formidable presence on the field.

Goals from Tashreeq Matthews (two), Matias Esquivel, Lucas Ribeiro, and Thembinkosi Lorch showcased Sundowns’ attacking prowess, with each player contributing to the emphatic victory that sealed their title triumph.

In contrast, Kaizer Chiefs’ struggles continued, with the defeat marking their fourth loss in five league matches. The early dismissal of Given Msimango further compounded their challenges, as they were reduced to 10 men in the first half.

Sundowns’ remarkable achievement not only highlights their dominance in domestic football but also sets a high standard for future seasons, cementing their legacy as a formidable force in South African football history.
