Burundi’s U17 women’s team secured a resounding 18-0 victory over Djibouti in the first leg of their third-round tie for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. The match, which took place in Ethiopia, witnessed Esperence Habonima and Roy Nzoyikorera emerging as the stars for Burundi, collectively scoring 13 goals.
Habonima’s exceptional performance saw her etching her name into the record books with a staggering seven-goal haul, while Nzoyikorera contributed six goals to the team’s victory. Djibouti now faces a daunting task in the return leg as they strive to keep their World Cup dream alive.
Burundi’s impressive run in the qualifiers continues, with previous victories over Botswana in earlier rounds. Meanwhile, other African teams such as Nigeria, Senegal, and Morocco also had significant results in their respective matches, setting the stage for intense competition in the upcoming second legs.
