Vipers Miss Out on Title Despite Convincing Win

Despite a convincing 4-1 home win over Mbarara City in Kitende today, Vipers sports club could not retain the Startimes Uganda Premier League title on final match day of the season as SC Villa sealed the decisive result over NEC FC in Lugogo to emerge champions.

A first half brace by captain Milton Karisa coupled with Karim Watambala and Abubakar Lawal strikes were not enough to secure triumph for the venoms with four teams including Kitara and BUL having been in title contention coming into today’s games.

Vipers head coach Richard Wasswa points to the poor state of football pitches across the country as reason for his side’s failure to retain the trophy, “We failed to play well at some of the playgrounds where we have been hosted because of the bad conditions of the fields and the stoppages in the league.”

He also says an unconvincing home record has been costly for his side, “We have not performed so well in our home games and if we had then we could have taken the league and it’s a lesson we have learnt,” stated Wasswa.

The tactician says the side will need to improve on some aspects of their game if they are to win the title next season, “The players have improved so much and there are so many new faces that have been coming up and I’m impressed with the display. We need to sharpen on the finishing touches and we need to find a solution so that we are to able win it next season,” Wasswa revealed.

Vipers SC has previously won the Startimes Uganda Premier League title in 2010, 2015, 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
