Liverpool could be in the market for a new star forward this summer if Mohamed Salah departs Anfield. Former West Ham first-team coach Kevin Nolan has suggested that Jarrod Bowen would be an ideal replacement for the Egyptian international.
Salah, 31, attracted significant interest from Saudi Arabia last year, with Al-Ittihad submitting a £150 million offer that Liverpool rejected. Speculation about his future continues, despite Salah recently hinting in a social media post that he intends to stay at Anfield next season.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5, Nolan, a lifelong Liverpool fan, highlighted Bowen as a potential successor to Salah. “Jarrod Bowen,” Nolan responded when asked who could fill the void if Salah were to leave.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has consistently praised Bowen, calling him one of his favorite players outside of his own squad. Ahead of a Carabao Cup match against West Ham in December, Klopp remarked, “Playing without Antonio, and Bowen steps up in that position – probably my favourite player besides my players. It’s just great what he’s doing and how he develops.”
Bowen, who has been in impressive form, signed a seven-year contract with West Ham in October. Michail Antonio, Bowen’s teammate, acknowledged the challenge Liverpool would face in signing him.
“He (Bowen) is a bagsman. Everything he’s touching is turning to gold right now,” Antonio said. “It’s going to cost some serious dough, man just signed a seven-year deal! All that money you’re getting in from Salah, you’ll have to give that to us!”
