Cameroon’s football scene was rocked by turmoil as manager Marc Brys was sacked following an explosive confrontation with former footballer and federation president Samuel Eto’o.
The confrontation that led to the sacking unfolded during a meeting ahead of Cameroon’s World Cup qualifiers.
At the meeting, Eto’o demanded respect from Brys, asserting his authority as federation president. However, Brys reportedly made disrespectful comments towards Eto’o, leading to his swift removal as head coach. The federation accused Brys of outright refusal to collaborate and disrespectful behavior towards Eto’o.
In response to Brys’ dismissal, Martin Ndtoungou has been appointed as Cameroon’s interim head coach. Ndtoungou will oversee the team’s preparations for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde and Angola.
The incident adds to the controversies surrounding Eto’o’s tenure as federation president, which has been marred by disputes, including a reported feud with Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and allegations of match-fixing and abuse of power.
