Former Manchester City winger, Riyad Mahrez, is notably absent from the Algerian squad as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup Qualifier clash against the Uganda Cranes.
The absence of Mahrez, a key figure in Algerian football, comes on the heels of a challenging AFCON campaign where Algeria secured only 2 points, with Mahrez notably struggling.
Following the disappointing AFCON performance, Mahrez opted to take a break from the national team. Despite Algeria’s coach extending an invitation for his return, Mahrez has yet to make contact with the team, leaving his availability uncertain for future matches.
Currently plying his trade for Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, Mahrez has maintained impressive form, boasting eleven goals and 13 assists from 32 appearances.
With the pivotal World Cup Qualifier against the Uganda Cranes scheduled for June 10th at Namboole, Mahrez’s absence raises concerns for Algeria, who currently lead Group G with 6 points, holding a 3-point advantage over Uganda.
