Football enthusiasts in Uganda are brimming with confidence ahead of the national team, the Uganda Cranes, taking on Botswana in a crucial World Cup qualifier match tonight at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Speaking to NBS Sports before kick-off, fans expressed their belief that the home side will secure a positive result against their southern African opponents.

Former KCCA and TP Mazembe goalkeeper Joseph Benson Ochaya is particularly optimistic about the Cranes’ chances, highlighting the advantage of playing at home.

“As Uganda Cranes, we have an edge over them (Botswana) because we’re playing at home,” Ochaya stated.

“The support of fans is very important in such games, and we have that today.”Ochaya went on to predict a comfortable 2-0 victory for the Cranes.

The prediction was also re-echoed by Gadaffi FC president Lt. Col. Edrine Ochieng, who also believes Uganda will win 2-0.

Ochieng believes that the attacking philosophy of the Cranes’ coach, Paul Put, will enable the team to score a couple of goals and secure the much-needed three points.

“This time round, we’re blessed to have a good coach that believes in attacking, and that will enable us (Uganda) to score goals,” Ochieng said confidently.

The refurbished Namboole Stadium, which is hosting the Cranes for the first time since 2019, is also expected to give the home team an additional boost in confidence and encouragement to give their all on the pitch.

The match is set to kick off at 7 pm local time, and football fans in Uganda are eagerly anticipating a strong performance from the Cranes as they look to take a step closer to securing a spot in the coveted World Cup tournament.
