Uganda Cranes’ Ismail Watenga Keeps Clean Sheet in Debut as Captain

In a proud moment for Ugandan football, goalkeeper Ismail Watenga made personal history by keeping a clean sheet in his first match as captain of the Uganda Cranes.

Stepping in for injured captain Khalid Aucho, Watenga’s commanding presence and exceptional shot-stopping abilities were on full display as the Cranes secured a hard-fought victory over Botswana.

Watenga’s performance was a testament to his leadership and goalkeeping prowess, as he adeptly handled every challenge that came his way. His clean sheet stands as a reward for his tireless efforts and solidifies his growing reputation as one of the region’s top goalkeepers.

Currently playing for Lamontville Golden Arrows FC, Watenga joined the team in August 2023 and dons the number 1 jersey. His career has also seen him play for several other clubs, including Vipers SC, Ethiopian Coffee, Sofapaka, Chippa United, Marumo Gallants, and Mamelodi Sundowns.
