The Government of Uganda has finalized a contract with Turkish construction company M/S SUMMA to build a 20,000-seater multi-purpose stadium in Hoima, in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Uganda, co-hosting the tournament with Kenya and Tanzania, will utilize the new Hoima Stadium for AFCON matches.
The contract was officially signed in a ceremony at State House Nakasero, attended by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni.
Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel represented the Government of Uganda and the National Council of Sports, while Selim Bora signed on behalf of M/S SUMMA. The signing was overseen by John Bosco Suza, Director of Legal Advisory Services, representing the Attorney General.
The construction of the stadium is scheduled to be completed within 18 months, with a deadline set for December 2025. The Ministry of Works and Transport, supported by the AFCON Sub-Committee on Infrastructure, will supervise the project to ensure it meets all necessary standards and requirements.
Prior to the contract signing, Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development Judith Nabakooba handed over a 34.9-acre land title for the Hoima City Stadium to First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni, marking a significant step towards the commencement of the construction.
