SC Villa defender Umar Lutalo has announced his departure from the reigning Uganda Premier League champions after three successful years with the club.
Lutalo, who joined Villa in the 2021/22 season, will leave the club as a free agent, following the expiration of his contract.
The 20-year-old defender was a vital cog in Villa’s title-winning campaign last season being in the heart of their defence, and also scoring 8 goals in 18 matches to end the club’s 20-year trophy drought.
In a heartfelt farewell statement, Lutalo expressed his profound gratitude to the club’s management, his teammates, the staff, and the loyal supporters who have been instrumental in his journey.
“To the esteemed president Hajji Omar Mandela and his Executive Committee, your unwavering support and guidance have been instrumental in shaping not only my career but also the success of the club,” Lutalo wrote.
“To my fellow players, it has been an absolute honor to share the pitch with such talented individuals. Your dedication, passion, and camaraderie have been the driving force behind our triumphs.”
Lutalo’s departure follows in the footsteps of another first-team player, captain Kenneth Ssemakula, who also left the club as a free agent last month.
