Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) has witnessed a remarkable resurgence in the Uganda Premier League, largely attributed to the strategic leadership of Coach Abdallah Mubiru. A former KCCA FC player and coach, Mubiru returned to the club on November 13, 2023, signing a two-year contract. His coaching career, which includes stints at Police FC, Proline FC, Vipers SC, Mbeya City FC, and as an assistant coach for the Uganda Cranes, brings a wealth of experience and a winning philosophy to the team.
Mubiru’s return to KCCA marked his second tenure with the club, following a successful spell in 2014. Under his guidance, KCCA has achieved notable success, scoring a total of 54 goals in the just-concluded Uganda Premier League season. Significant victories included a dominant 6-1 win over Gaddafi and an impressive double win over Vipers.
Reflecting on the team’s strategy, Mubiru said, “By studying our opponents’ strengths and weaknesses, like in the Villa game, we empowered our players to execute their training on the field, leading to triumphant victories.”
He emphasized the importance of building a winning culture at KCCA through hard work, consistency, and setting high standards.
Mubiru’s coaching philosophy centres on dominating possession, using the ball to attack, and fostering a strong team dynamic. He encourages players to trust in their abilities and this creates a sense of belonging within the club.
“We built a winning culture at KCCA by demanding hard work, consistency, and stability, setting high standards and delivering top performance,” Mubiru added.
Despite challenges, such as the difficult match against Wakiso Giants, Mubiru’s resilience and determination have driven the team’s success.
“I almost lost hope during the Wakiso Giants game, but our subsequent wins rejuvenated my hope and reinforced our team’s resilience and determination to succeed,” Mubiru shared.
KCCA FC’s impact extends beyond the league, contributing talented players to the Ugandan national team. Joel Sserunjogi and Muhammad Shaban, who scored the winning goal against Botswana in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, exemplify the club’s excellence on both national and international stages.
As KCCA FC looks ahead to the 2024/2025 season, all eyes will be on KCCA as they seek to continue their journey of success under Coach Abdallah Mubiru’s leadership.
