Uganda Drops Two Places in Latest FIFA World Rankings

The latest FIFA World Rankings, released on June 20th, 2024, reveal Uganda’s descent by two places in the global standings. The East African nation now holds the 94th position worldwide and ranks 21st across Africa.

Despite a mixed performance in recent fixtures, Uganda’s standings were affected by their results in the June World Cup Qualifiers. The team secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Botswana but faced a setback with a 2-1 defeat against Algeria.

Morocco leads the African standings, maintaining the 12th position globally. Senegal follows closely, slipping from 17th to 18th place in the world rankings. Egypt are third in Africa, climbing one spot to 36th globally.

Within the East African region, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) emerges as the top-ranked nation, positioned 11th in Africa and 61st worldwide.

Uganda remains the highest-ranked country in the CECAFA region, trailed by Kenya at 108th globally. Tanzania notably climbed five places to secure the 114th spot in the world rankings.

On the global stage, Argentina continues to dominate as the top-ranked nation, with France and Belgium securing the second and third positions, respectively. Brazil’s rise to fourth place marks a significant advancement, while England dropped to fifth.

Meanwhile, Liberia made the most substantial leap in the rankings, gaining ten places to settle at 142nd globally.

The FIFA World Rankings provide a comprehensive assessment of national teams’ performances, reflecting recent match outcomes and their impact on global standings.
