Paris Olympics: Tonny Kasujja to Lead Uganda’s Olympic Swimming Team

The Uganda Swimming Federation has announced Tonny Kasujja as the head coach for Team Uganda at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

Kasujja, a veteran leader in Ugandan swimming, brings extensive experience to the role, having previously guided Team Uganda through several prominent events, including the Open Water Swimming Championship, the Youth Commonwealth Games, and the World Aquatic Junior Championships.

Under Kasujja’s leadership, four swimmers will represent Uganda at the Paris Olympics. The team comprises Ssengonzi Jesse, Tendo Mukalazi, Gloria Muzito, and Kirabo Namutebi, each of whom has demonstrated remarkable talent and achievement in the sport.

Ssengonzi Jesse, currently part of the University of Chicago team, recently won his second NCAA title in March, breaking David Fitch’s record in the Men’s 100 butterfly. He also finished fourth in the Men’s 100 butterfly at the 16th Africa Aquatics Swimming and Open Water Championships.

Tendo Mukalazi, holder of the national record for the Mixed 4×50 freestyle relay and the Mixed 4×50 medley relay, secured an eleventh-place finish in the Men’s 50m freestyle at the 16th Africa Aquatics Swimming and Open Water Championships.

Gloria Muzito claimed a bronze medal in the Women’s 50m freestyle and a gold medal in the Women’s 100m freestyle at the 16th Africa Aquatics Swimming and Open Water Championships in May.

Kirabo Namutebi, the national record holder in the Women’s 50m freestyle, Women’s 50m butterfly, and Women’s 50m backstroke won a silver medal in the Women’s 50m freestyle and a bronze medal in the Women’s 50m breaststroke at the same championships.

The inclusion of these accomplished swimmers under the guidance of Kasujja raises hopes for Uganda’s strong performance in the Olympic swimming events.
