Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put has welcomed his team’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification group.
The Cranes were pitted in Group K at the Draw held in Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday afternoon.
Bafana Bafana, Congo Brazzaville, and South Sudan will be Uganda’s opponents in the quest for the ticket to Morocco in December next year.
“I think it is a fair group and I know that there are no easy games but I believe that the opponents are playable,” Put reacted to Draw while speaking to FUFA.
“You cannot underestimate any team but I think we can perform well and we shall prepare ourselves with optimism for qualification,” he added.
The Belgian tactician took charge of his first competitive games with the Cranes during the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
He was impressed with what he saw on and off the pitch from each stakeholder and he is calling upon everyone from the playing staff to the fans to do their part.
“I am requesting the supporters to have belief in the team like they did against Botswana and Algeria because their support was unbelievable,” he said.
“We shall also do our job as coaches to ensure that the team is ready to compete and I would also like to ask that the players start preparing mentally wherever they are,” he added.
The qualifiers will begin in September and be played around three international windows concluding in November.
The Pearl of Africa will find themselves on the road for their first game against South Africa.
It is important to note that the 2025 AFCON was postponed to avoid a clash with the new FIFA Club World Cup format in the summer of 2025.
Therefore, Morocco will host the rest of Africa in December 21, 2025 until January 18, 2026.
