Kitara Captain Maxwell Owachigiu Signs One-Year Contract Extension with Club

Kitara Football Club captain Maxwell Owachigiu has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club for one more year.

The defender, who has been with the Royals since the 2017/18 season, and is the club’s longest-serving player and captain, will remain with the team until June 2025.

Owachigiu, who joined Kitara from Booma Young FC, expressed his delight at the contract extension, stating, “I am really happy to stay, and I thank the club for letting me be a part of this team.”

The captain went on to state that making the decision to stay at Kitara was easy for him, since the club is like family to him.

“The decision was easy because we are a family, and when you feel that way, it makes it easier.” He said.

After the contract extension, Kitara’s head coach Brain Ssenyondo, spoke highly of Owachigiu’s contributions, both on and off the pitch.

“We’re very excited to have Max extend his contract with Kitara FC. His contributions on and off the pitch have been clear to everyone. He’s accepted his role as a leader within the team, and his influence on the pitch has been tremendous.”

The contract extension comes at a crucial time for Kitara, as they prepare to travel to Ethiopia next week to play Mechal Sports Club in a friendly match to mark the Ethiopian club’s 80th Anniversary Celebrations.

Coach Ssenyondo, while speaking to NBS Sport earlier this week said that the match will serve as a warm-up for Kitara’s upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign, which they qualified for after winning the Uganda Cup.

The Hoima-based club has already signed a number of players in the on-going transfer window including Ronald Otti from BUL and David Ndihabwe from Maroons.
