Maroons Secure Promising Youngster Ivan Asaba on Two-Year Deal

Maroons Football Club have secured the services of highly-rated youngster Ivan Asaba on a two-year contract.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who has long been touted as one of the promising rising stars in Ugandan football, joins the club as a free agent, with hopes that this new chapter will help revitalise his promising career.

Asaba, who boasts of a strong footballing background, first made his name as a young lad at KCCA and later with the Vipers Junior team.

His impressive performances at the youth level earned him call-ups to the Uganda national U-17 and U-20 teams, where he played a crucial role in the team’s successes.

In 2020, Asaba was part of the Uganda U-17 team that won the CECAFA championship, showcasing his talent on the regional stage.

The following year, he was a key member of the Uganda Hippos squad that reached the finals of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania, further cementing his reputation as one of the country’s brightest young prospects.

Despite his early success, Asaba’s journey at the senior level with Vipers was somewhat challenging.

With a constant influx of new signings at the club, the talented midfielder struggled to earn the trust of the ever-changing coaching staff and found himself on the periphery of the first-team setup.

Recognising the need for a fresh start, Asaba has now joined Maroons, where he will have the opportunity to showcase his skills and fulfill the promise that has long been associated with his name.

Known for his excellent ball-handling abilities and versatility in midfield, the youngster can operate as a number 10 or as a winger, providing Maroons with additional attacking options.

Asaba’s arrival at Maroons FC is the club’s second signing of the current transfer window, following the acquisition of defender Apollo Kagogwe from Wakiso Giants.

With the addition of Asaba, Maroons will be hoping to bolster their squad and mount a strong challenge in the upcoming StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.
