The Uganda Rugby Sevens team was met with immense celebration at Entebbe International Airport after being crowned African champions for the fourth time.
Fans gathered to greet their heroes, who secured the title by defeating Madagascar and South Africa in the finals of the 2024 edition at the Labourdonnais Sports Ground in Mauritius.
The team’s remarkable journey began with a convincing 24-07 victory over Zimbabwe in the semifinals, positioning them as champions even before the final match on Sunday.
In the final, they triumphed over South Africa, scoring four tries. Denis Etwau crossed the line twice, with Alex Aturinda and Aaron Ofoyrwoth each adding a try.
Upon the team’s arrival, the excitement was palpable as fans showered the players with appreciation.
After picking up the players, they treated them to a meal before heading to Kyadondo Rugby Grounds. Reflecting on the significance of the victory, the coach acknowledged the tough competition they faced.
The Uganda Rugby Sevens team emerged victorious, topping the standings with 40 points and bringing home the African Championship title in the 2024 edition.
