StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa’s 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup tournament is on the line in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Jogoos needed maximum points against APR FC to book an automatic slot into the semifinals but only managed a point against the Rwanda Premier League champions at the Azam Complex on Monday.

“We came into this game looking for three points and the players showed exactly that by playing well but we could not afford maximum points,” Byekwaso reacted in the aftermath of the match.

“We shall now have to wait and see what happens in Tuesday’s games to see if we are able to advance to the next stage.”

“But the most important thing is that we have had a good experience in terms of preparing for the CAF Champions League,” he noted.

“This tournament has painted quite a clear picture for us about the players regarding their strengths and weaknesses so let us see how we improve as preparation continues.”

The former KCCA head coach concluded by noting that he hopes that results elsewhere go their way because they wish to go all the way and win the championship.

Dusan Stojanovic’s team will only go through to the last four as the best second placed team.

The 17-time league champions will be hoping that Djibouti Telecom picks at least a point against Red Arrows in Group B on Tuesday.

Djibouti is positioned bottom of the group standings with a single point whereas Red Arrows are placed second with three points.

After the CECAFA, the UPL record champions will shift focus to the first round of Champions League preliminaries where they will face Ethiopian side Commercial Bank (CBE SA).
