Kitara defender Maxwell Owachigiu has been named the official team captain for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign by head coach Brian Ssenyondo.
Owachigiu, who has led the club since the 2018/19 season, retains his role as captain.
Last season, he played the most number of games for the Royals and guided them to their first-ever Uganda Cup victory.
“Max’s discipline, commitment, and respect for everyone are not questionable. He is exemplary and embodies the values that we have as a club,” Ssenyondo explained his decision to keep his captain in that role.
“It’s a great honor to represent Kitara as captain for another season and to lead so many good players,” Owachigiu said.
“Being a person who has been at this club for some years is something I don’t take for granted. It’s important to lead by example and also push others to the level they are expected to be, and I hope we work together, learn from each other, and win as a team,” he added.
Fellow defender Jasper Aheebwa Baguma will serve as the first vice-captain as he enters his third season with the Royals, having joined from Mbarara City in July 2022.
Last season’s best Uganda Premier League goalkeeper, Chrispas Kusiima, is the second vice-captain, while experienced midfielder Paddy Muhumuza was named third assistant skipper.
