Mamelodi Sundowns, the reigning DStv Premiership and African Football League champions, are set to appoint Romain Folz as their new assistant coach.
The 34-year-old Frenchman is returning to South Africa after stints with Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu, as well as coaching Horoya in Guinea.
Folz will join Sundowns’ technical team as the second assistant coach, with Manqoba Mngqithi confirmed as the head coach and Steve Komphela as the first assistant. According to reports from SABC Sport, Folz has already been introduced to the Sundowns players.
In other news, former Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena revealed his decision to join Wydad Casablanca in Morocco was influenced by a desire to avoid facing Sundowns. Mokwena stated that his emotional connection with the players at Sundowns made it difficult for him to coach against them.
Additionally, Sundowns are expected to announce the signing of 19-year-old left-back Asekho Tiwani from Sekhukhune United. Tiwani impressed Sundowns with his performances last season, and negotiations for his transfer are nearing completion.
