British tennis legend Andy Murray has announced that he will retire after the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Murray, 37, will compete in both the men’s singles and doubles events at the Olympics, pairing with fellow Brit Dan Evans in the doubles competition.
This announcement follows his recent withdrawal from the men’s singles competition at Wimbledon, where he made an emotional farewell appearance in the men’s doubles with his brother Jamie.
Murray, a four-time Grand Slam champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, has been battling persistent injuries and playing with a metal hip for several years.
In a heartfelt social media post, Murray wrote, “Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament @Olympics. Competing for Team GB has been by far the most memorable weeks of my career, and I’m extremely proud to do it one final time!”
Murray’s retirement marks the end of an era for British tennis. His achievements include winning Wimbledon twice, the US Open once, and securing Olympic gold in both 2012 and 2016.
