The 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa have ended their marriage with head coach Dusan Stojanovic.
The Jogoos released a shocking statement on Saturday morning announcing the departure of their title-winning manager.
“Sports Club Villa has, today, mutually parted ways with its Head Coach, Dusan Stojanovic,” the statement read.
“Dusan leaves with sincere appreciation for steering the Club through a very tough season to its 17th League Championship.”
“The Club wishes him well in his next endeavours and thanks him for his services. Coach Morley Byekwaso immediately takes over as the interim head coach,” a statement signed by the club’s CEO Willam Nkemba ended.
Stojanovic was appointed at the start of the 2023/24 campaign on a three-year contract meaning his deal has been terminated.
After a successful campaign with the Serbian, the UPL record champions will be able to play in continental football once again.
The Jogoos will play Ethiopian outfit Commercial Bank (CBE) in the first round of the preliminary round due in August.
His last engagement with the club was in the CECAFA Kagame Club Championship in Tanzania when Villa drew 1-1 with Rwandan side APR FC bowing out of the tournament from the group stages.
It is important to note that before Villa ignited their title credentials in the latter stages of the season, rumours were making rounds that the gaffer was set to leave the club and was linked with a move to Vipers SC.
However, those speculations cooled down as Villa charged for the title and eventually won it.
We wait to see his next move, given that Vipers, where he was linked, have already signed a new coach in his compatriot, Nikola Kovazovic.
Meanwhile, Villa will be in action next weekend against the Uganda Cranes Select Team in the quarterfinals of the FUFA Super 8 at the Philip Omondi Stadium.
