Uganda Cranes all-time leading goal scorer Emmanuel Okwi is not about to retire. Okwi has been off the scene for a couple of months now but he is back on the road rejoining Kiyovu SC. The above transfer move was rumored earlier on before both parties made it official on Saturday.Okwi put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the Rwandan outfit at least until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Kiyovu was the 31-year-old’s last club on the African continent in the 2021/22 campaign before signing for Al-Zawraa SC in Iraq.During the same 2022/23 season, he was once again on the move this time around joining Erbil SC. Okwi has a reach career and besides Kiyovu, Al-Zawraa, and Erbil, Okwi has played for six other different clubs.
Two stints at Uganda Premier League record champions, SC Villa, three tenures with Tanzanian giants Simba SC where he is a darling to date. He also played for Simba’s rivals Young Africans SC while Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia and Al Ittihad Alexandria Club of Egypt are the sides he featured for in North Africa. Sønderjyske in Denmark is where he plied his trade in Europe.
He has played in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in Gabon and Egypt in 2016 and 2019, respectively.Since his debut in 2011, he has played 95 games for Uganda Cranes and scored 28 goals, the most of any other player.
For starters, he is still the official Uganda Cranes captain.
