NBS Sport will broadcast live coverage of Kitara Football Club’s historic CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg clash against Al Hilal Benghazi tomorrow, Friday, starting at at 7 pm.
The match will mark a significant milestone for Kitara, who are making their first appearance in continental competition after winning last season’s Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The team’s journey to this point has been remarkable and NBS Sport is proud to showcase this momentous occasion.
Joseph Kigozi, the General Manager of NBS Sport expressed his enthusiasm for broadcasting Kitara’s debut.
“We are thrilled to showcase Kitara as they represent Uganda on the continental stage. They are one of those teams that excited so many last season. They have a very good story, and come from a region that is really passionate about football,” he said.
Kigozi, who is also the Deputy CEO of Next Media noted that the match is not just about football , but about unity and pride for Uganda.
He revealed why the channel is broadcasting the clash saying, “We want our viewers to feel the energy and excitement of this historic moment. Kitara are playing at the continental level, and we need to support them because they are raising our flag. Hopefully they can get a very important win away from home.”
Earlier this week, Kitara President Deo Kasozi, currently in Libya with the team, hinted on a future partnership with NBS Sport during an appearance on the channel’s Premier Sport show.
“We want to come in full swing and sign an arrangement where you (NBS Sport) will be our partners,” Kasozi said during a zoom interview on Monday.
The Kitara squad, under the guidance of head coach Brian Ssenyondo, arrived in Benghazi on Tuesday, prepared to face the challenges that come with their historic debut.
They departed Uganda in the wee hours of Monday morning, had a brief stopover in Cairo before reaching their final destination on Tuesday.
The logistical hurdles they face, including playing both legs of the preliminary round in Libya add an extra layer of difficulty to their campaign.
Despite these challenges, the mood within the Kitara camp remains optimistic.
Striker Denis Omedi, who recently wowed fans with a stunning Rabona goal in Kitara’s FUFA Super 8 clash against KCCA, exuded confidence as he spoke about the upcoming match.
“We are ready to give our all in this game. Our fans back home should know that we are here to fight for good results,” Omedi declared.
Kitara’s journey to this historic moment was paved with a win over NEC in the Uganda Cup. While their opponents, Al Hilal Benghazi, are not giants of African football, Kitara know they must tread carefully.
Al Hilal’s limited CAF experience, with just two previous appearances in 2001 and 2003, might suggest a winnable tie, but the stakes are high, and The Royals will need to bring their best game to secure a favorable result.
The return leg of this preliminary round will also take place in Libya on August 23, with Kitara planning to remain in Benghazi to fully prepare for both fixtures.
The winner of the ties will play Egypt’s Al Masry in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
