As the anticipation builds for the highly anticipated friendly between Uganda’s Express and Kenya’s AFC Leopards, a former star of the Kenyan outfit is caught in a wave of nostalgia.

The Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo is set to be the stage for this footballing spectacle, and for Yakubu, it’s a personal homecoming.

Having made a significant mark during his playing days with Leopards, the defender-turned-pundit is filled with pride as he reflects on the club’s journey to Uganda.

“It’s a surreal feeling,” Yakubu expressed. “To see AFC Leopards, a club I proudly represented and captained, coming to play in my home country is truly special. There’s a deep-rooted connection between me and the club.”

Yakubu’s tenure at AFC Leopards was characterized by his defensive prowess and leadership qualities. His impact on the Kenyan Premier League was undeniable, and his return to the Ugandan scene as a supporter adds an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming match.

The former defender emphasized the importance of this friendly in fostering stronger football ties between Uganda and Kenya.

“This match is more than just a game; it’s a bridge between two passionate footballing nations,” he stated. “Both Express and AFC Leopards boast rich histories, and their clash promises to be a spectacle for the fans.”

As the countdown to kickoff begins, Yakubu is eager to witness the on-field action.

“I anticipate a thrilling encounter filled with skill, passion, and sportsmanship,” he concluded. “Both teams have talented players, and I’m confident the fans will be treated to a memorable match.”

The friendly between Express and AFC Leopards is scheduled for this Friday at Hamz Stadium.
