Ugandan side Kitara are brimming with confidence as they prepare to face Libyan giants Al Hilal SC Benghazi in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tonight.
The match kicks off at 8 PM EAT at the Benina Martyrs Stadium and will be live on NBS Sport.
Coach Brian Ssenyondo’s charges are making their debut in the continental competition and are eager to make a positive impression. Despite the daunting task at hand, the gaffer is optimistic about his team’s chances.
“We have prepared meticulously for this match and we are ready to give a good account of ourselves,” Ssenyondo said.
“Playing away from our fans is undoubtedly a challenge, but we have mentally prepared ourselves for it. We know our supporters will be cheering us on from back home, and that will be a huge motivation,” he added.
Kitara have enjoyed a busy schedule in recent weeks, participating in two international friendlies against Ethiopia’s Mechal Sports Club and Kenya’s Tusker FC, as well as the FUFA Super 8 tournament.
Ssenyondo believes this competitive experience has adequately prepared his squad for the rigors of continental football.
“We have a blend of experienced and young players in the team,” Ssenyondo added. “Some of our players have represented the national team, while others have previous CAF competition experience. We trust in their ability to deliver.”
Will Kitara FC defy the odds and secure a positive result in their CAF Confederations Cup debut? Only time will tell.
