Tanzania’s Aalaa Riyaz Somji from Arusha Gymkhana Golf Club carved her name into the Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Golf Open history books by achieving a stunning hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole.
This was during the second day of the tournament, which took place on Friday, August 23 at Entebbe Golf Club.
With an inch-perfect 9-iron shot, Somji executed a flawless strike that sent the ball directly into the cup, marking not only the shot of the day but also a standout moment in the competition.
This extraordinary feat is a rare accomplishment in golf, and achieving it at such a stage adds an extra layer of distinction.
Despite this remarkable achievement, Somji faced challenges throughout her round.
She concluded the day with a score of 83, placing her ten strokes behind the leader, Uganda’s Martha Babirye, who took the lead with an impressive score of 76.
Babirye will be facing stiff competition in the final round on Saturday from Tanzanian trio; Iddy Hussein Madina, Neema Olomi, and Hawa Wanyeche, all of whom are within two strokes of the top spot.
