Express Football Club have signed experienced midfielder Saidi Kyeyune, formerly of URA, in a move that aims to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The 30-year old joins Express as a free agent following the expiration of his three-year contract with URA last month.
The midfielder’s arrival at Express is timely, as the club has seen an exodus of key players during this transfer window, including Ramz Kawooya, who was officially unveiled by BUL on Monday.
The Red Eagles have lost several other players, such as midfielders Hussein Ssenoga and Musa Ssali, left-back Isma Kawawulo, winger Marvin Oshaba, forward Isaac Wagoina, and goalkeeper Abdul Kimera.
Kyeyune’s wealth of experience is expected to help fill the void left by some of these departures.
His move to Express marks the end of his second stint with URA. The veteran midfielder had rejoined the Tax Collectors in 2021 on a three-year deal after a brief spell with Sudanese side El Merrikh.
Kyeyune’s history with URA dates back to 2011 when he transferred from Maroons and quickly established himself as one of the top midfielders in the country.
The midfielder, who also served as URA’s captain, helped the side clinch the Uganda Cup in 2014 and the 2016 Mapinduzi Cup.
He now joins Express, whose management has been proactive in this transfer market, to become the latest in a series of signings.
On August 16, the club unveiled several new players, including Michael Kagiri, Sam Ssenyonjo, Geoffrey Gagganga, Herbert Kibirango, Michael Kimera, Andrew Eporu, Isa Glory Kisule, Charles Ssembalirwa, and Hafisu Wandera.
These signings coincided with the club’s announcement of Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo as their new home ground for the upcoming season, signaling Express’ intent to make a strong push in the upcoming campaign.
