The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Uganda and South Africa is in sight and both teams have summoned their squads.
On Thursday, Hugo Broos named his final 23-man squad without the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations best goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
The Mamelodi Sundowns custodian is nursing a shoulder injury but was initially selected in the provisional squad.
He missed preseason with his club, however, Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi had hinted on his return soon which was a boost for the Bafana Bafana.
Although the 32-year-old is progressing in his recovery, the game against Uganda on September 6th comes too soon for him.
The Sundowns and Bafana Bafana captain had four clean-sheets, and saved four penalties in the shootouts against Cape Verde at AFCON in Ivory Coast early this year.
Williams isn’t the only big name miss-out for South Africa but also star player Percy Tau has not been included.
Tau has a future to settle with a year left on his contract with Egyptian giants Al Ahly. His preference is to return to the Premier Soccer League and reports have linked him to Kaizer Chiefs.
Uganda and South Africa are pooled in Group K of the qualifiers alongside Congo Brazzaville and South Sudan.
