Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku was set not to host Uganda Premier League football for the first time ever ahead of the 2024/25 season.
This followed the moving on of traditional habitants Express to Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo and Villa switching to Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
However, the script has been rewritten and the 2023/24 UPL champions will defend their title basing at Wankulukuku.
“We shall host all our home games of the domestic competitions (StarTimes Uganda Premier League and Stanbic Uganda Cup) at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.”
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the club management released a statement on Thursday evening.
Upon returning to the CAF Champions League after 20 years, the UPL record champions hosted their first round of the preliminaries at Namboole.
They fell to Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) 2-1 in a nearly empty stadium after charging UGX. 50000 for ordinary tickets, a price the faithful regarded hefty.
Their journey ended at the initial stage of the competition following a 1-1 draw in the return leg played in Ethiopia.
Villa’s first game of the season will be against Mbarara City at Wankulukuku on September 16.
