Standard Chartered Cup: Vision Dethrone Steel And Tubes

Vision have clinched the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup after edging MTN 1-0 in the final played at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.

Julius Kafuluma netted the all-important goal as Vision capped off the one-day tournament of 41 teams with an unbeaten record.

Victory ensured that Vision dethroned Steel and Tubes who beat CFAO Motors to last year’s championship.

It was the seventh edition of the Standard Chartered Cup, and as usual, the winner will enjoy a travel experience to England, mainly to watch a live game of Liverpool at the electric Anfield Stadium.

Therefore, Vision will watch a thrilling encounter between the Kops and Arsenal later next year in May.

Arne Slot’s charges started the 2024/25 campaign on a high note collecting maximum points from three games and the meeting with Arsenal in May could be a title decider.

Vision’s goal scorer and captain, Kafuluma, expressed his delight at the achievement of his team and is looking forward to the trip.

“We have fallen short a couple of times in this tournament but this time around we have managed to win the trophy and it’s an amazing moment,” he said.

“We are all excited for what this victory has brought us. It has been a collective effort and each member of the team is looking forward to the trip to Anfield.”

“I would like to thank Standard Chartered for the opportunity,” Kafuluma added.

On the other hand, Standard Chartered Bank Managing Director Sinjay Rughani congratulated the winners.

“I am grateful for the participation of all the teams but at the end of the day it’s a game and only one team can win,” Rughani stated.

“Congratulations to the winners and I believe Vision were the best team on the day and we shall ensure that their trip is successful.”

“We have done this for the past six years and each year we try to improve the experience and Vision should be proud of themselves.”

Kafuluma didn’t not only score the winning goal in the final but also took home the Man of the Match award.
