Former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and captain Denis Onyango was selected to start in goal for Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the second round of the CAF Champions League preliminary round against Mbabane Swallows.
Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi overhauled his starting lineup from the 4-0 victory in the first leg played in Eswatini last week.
The fresh lineup, which had the 39-year-old Ugandan, found it easy as well, thumping Mbabane 4-0 at the Lucas Masterpiece Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, on Saturday.
Kobamelo Kodisang opened the scoring in the 42nd minute for the hosts to lead 1-0 at halftime. Malibongwe Khoza doubled the Brazilians’ advantage at the hour mark.
Thembinkosi Lorch stretched their advantage in the 63rd minute before Sphelele Mkhulise added a fourth in the 67th minute.
Mamelodi advanced into the group stages of the 2024/25 campaign with an 8-0 aggregate score, and they’ll be seeking their second Champions League title, their first since 2016.
