Kitara Undeterred by NEC Loss, Eye Comeback Against KCCA

By Alan Mwesigwa

Despite a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to NEC in Game Week 2 of the 2024/25 Startimes Uganda Premier League season, Kitara remain optimistic about their chances of challenging for the league title.

The club’s coach, Brian Ssenyondo, CEO Josh Atugonza, and players have urged fans to maintain their support, insisting that the loss is just a minor setback.

Ahead of their crucial match against KCCA on Friday, Ssenyondo assured fans that the club has assembled a talented squad capable of achieving their ambitious goals.

He highlighted the quality of the new signings and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform at the highest level.

Kitara FC’s captain, Maxwell Owaciguie, emphasized the positive impact of having national team players Jude Ssemugabi and Denis Omedi in the squad. He praised the duo’s leadership and their ability to inspire their teammates.

Addressing concerns about Denis Omedi’s potential departure, Atugonza dismissed the rumours as baseless.

He clarified that the player remains committed to Kitara and is eager to contribute to the team’s success this season.

Meanwhile, the club’s CEO responded to KCCA coach Abdallah Mubiru’s comments that Kitara is overrated.

Atugonza suggested that Mubiru might be trying to downplay Kitara’s abilities to ease the pressure on his own team.

Kitara were title challengers last season and narrowly missed out on the league title but clinched the Uganda Cup after beating NEC in the finals.
