Despite the loss, the former Vipers captain played fulltime as he continues to fit into the club he joined last month.

In this Round of 32 encounter, the opposition was filled with international stars some of whom made a mark in Europe.

Former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho played the entire 90 minutes for Al Ittihad and in defence.

Ex-Real Madrid striker, captain, and 2022 Ballon do’r Karim Benzema was introduced with a quarter of the game left.

Former Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn, Aston Villa’s Moussa Diaby, and Olympic Marseille’s Houssem Aouar were all subbed on in the second half.

Saleh Al Sherri bagged a brace with one of his two goals coming from a penalty and another from Ziyad Al Refaei’s own goal.
