Former Uganda Cranes and Villa head coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic was part of the lot watching on at Wankulukuku on Thursday as the Jogoos bounced back from the 1-0 loss away to newly promoted Mbale Heroes last weekend.
Micho was in the stands with his Cranes successor Paul Joseph Put during the Uganda Premier League defending champions’ 2-1 win over BUL.
The Serbian was sacked by Libya last week and he is in the country at the moment, a place he has always insisted is his home.
He was the last manager to win the UPL with Villa in 2004 before his compatriot Dusan Stojanovic won it 20 years later in 2024 and the latter has since left the club.
Ronald Ssekiganda opened the scoring in the 18th minute from a header for the 17-time UPL winners to lead 1-0 at halftime.
The Villa captain is for sure the main player Cranes head coach Put was watching as the Belgian continues following the UPL closely.
Ssekiganda is now a mainstay in the national team and has started and finished four straight international games since his debut against Botswana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at Namboole in June.
Villa managed to build a second goal on his first thanks to Hakim Kiwanuka’s strike immediately after the restart in the 48th minute.
Dickson Mataama pulled a goal back for the Oil Manufacturers in the 64th minute but could not afford anything more as Villa were able to hung on for a narrow victory.
It is now three games on the bounce without a win for BUL, a side that finished second in the UPL last season. They have managed two draws and a loss in the three opening games of the season.
On the other hand, Morley Byekwaso’s charges have won two games and lost once. Villa are placed second on the 16-team UPL log with six points compared to BUL’s two in the 13th position.
Byekwaso’s boys have a tricky fixture coming up next against Vipers at Kitende on Saturday, October 5 whilst BUL will host Mbarara City in Lugazi three days earlier.
