APR midfielder Taddeo Lwanga is amongst the players who have been remembered by Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put.

The 30-year-old has been summoned for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against neighbours South Sudan in October.

With the national team going through a transition, there has still been a cry for a bit of experience, especially from those players who have something left in them.

In that regard, Lwanga’s name has always been fronted because of his consistency with the Rwanda Premier League champions.

The former Vipers and Villa captain recently played in the second round of the CAF Champions League preliminaries, where his side failed to reach the group stages, falling to Egyptian Pyramids.

It will be the first time that Lwanga plays under the Belgian tactician, given the fact that the last time he was called for national duty was in 2023 under Put’s predecessor, Milutin Micho Sredojevic.

Besides Lwanga, KCCA striker Derrick Nsibambi is the other notable returning player for the Cranes.

He has been out of the national team set-up for a lengthy period. However, his second stint at KCCA kicked off well, scoring one goal and an assist in three games and just right in time for the national team summoning.

American outfit Austin II’s Bobosi Byaruhanga is also back after missing the previous games against South Africa and Congo Brazzaville due to visa issues.

The Uganda Cranes lead Group K with four points from two outings and host South Sudan on October 11 before visiting the latter four days later.
