Ivan Ahimbisibwe became the first player to score a hat-trick in the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season, leading URA FC to a commanding 4-0 win over newly promoted Mbale Heroes on Saturday at Mbale Municipal Stadium.
Ahimbisibwe’s three goals all came in the first half, as he struck in the 12th, 17th, and 33rd minutes, putting URA in a dominant position early on.
He wasn’t just a goal-scorer; he also set up Amisi Bwangani’s goal in the 59th minute, rounding off a stellar individual performance.
This latest hat-trick brings Ahimbisibwe’s tally to four goals this season, tying him with Seiri Arigumaho of Mbarara City for the top spot in the UPL scoring charts.
Ahimbisibwe had previously netted the winner in URA’s 1-0 victory over Bright Stars.
The win propels URA to third place on the UPL table with seven points, while Mbale Heroes remain in 12th with three points.
The victory provided a strong boost for URA before the league takes a break for the international window.
Alex Isabirye’s side will return to action on October 18, facing BUL at Nakivubo Stadium.
Meanwhile, Mbale Heroes, who continue to struggle with managerial uncertainty—coach Richard Malinga was absent, leaving goalkeeper coach Frank Ssebaggala Kisitu in charge—will visit Lugazi on October 16.
With the international break looming, both teams have some time to regroup and prepare for the upcoming fixtures.
