UCU Lady Doves maintained their dominant form in the National Volleyball League after securing a comfortable 3-0 victory over KAVC at Lugogo Arena on Wednesday evening.
The win extended UCU’s unbeaten run to three matches and sent them top of the Serie A Women’s standings.
The Mukono-based outfit has now claimed wins against KAVC, VVC, and Ndejje Elites, demonstrating their title credentials early in the campaign.
The Lady Doves, coached by Juma Osunge, control of the first set with a 25-18 win as KAVC struggled to deal with the pressure and the Lady Doves’ powerful attacks.
The second set was more competitive, with KAVC coming close to levelling the scoreline. However, UCU held their nerve to win 26-24, edging out their opponents as the crowd rallied behind both teams.
In the third set, KAVC showed determination to stage a comeback, but UCU’s composure and defensive solidity saw them wrap up the match with a 25-22 victory, completing a straight-sets win.
Osunge emphasized the importance of securing early-season victories to ease the pressure later in the competition.
“We want to win as many games as possible early on to avoid unnecessary pressure as the league progresses,” he said. “We lost concentration in the second set but made adjustments and found solutions to the challenge.”
The victory was part of a double success for UCU, as the men’s team also triumphed 3-1 over Nemostars earlier in the day, making it a memorable evening for the university.
