Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has made two key changes to his starting XI ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against South Sudan tonight at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Returning to the lineup is Halid Lwaliwa, who replaces Italian-based defender Elio Capradossi. Lwaliwa missed last month’s 2-0 victory over Congo but has regained his place at the heart of the defense, partnering with Bavis Mugabi.
Meanwhile, Jude Ssemugabi, whose goal off the bench sealed Uganda’s win against Congo, has been rewarded with a starting role, taking the place of Muhammad Shaban upfront.
In goal, Isama Watenga retains his spot and will be protected by a defensive unit consisting of Aziz Kayondo on the left, Kenneth Ssemakula on the right, and the central pair of Mugabi and Lwaliwa.
Team captain Khalid Aucho will lead the midfield alongside Ronald Ssekiganda, with young star Travis Mutyaba providing creativity from a more advanced position.
Upfront, Ssemugabi is joined by his Kitara Football Club teammate Denis Omedi and Rogers Mato, as the trio look to spearhead the Cranes’ attack.
