Manchester United goalkeeper Andrey Onana and Uganda’s Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa met at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala on Sunday and took the opportunity to discuss the club’s ongoing challenges.
Onana is in Uganda with the Cameroon national team ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Monday.
During the meeting, Tayebwa, a passionate Manchester United fan, shared insights from his conversation with the goalkeeper about the club’s difficult start to the 2024/25 season.
“As a United fan, I spoke with Onana about the current struggles at the club.”
“He explained that it’s tough for everyone right now, from the players to the fans, but they remain focused on turning things around,” Tayebwa revealed to the media after their meeting.
He added, “Onana shared how the coaches and players are committed to getting United back to where it belongs.”
While some individual players are performing well, the focus is on building team chemistry to improve overall results.”
Manchester United has had a challenging start, currently sitting 14th on the Premier League table with just eight points from seven games.
Despite individual standout performances, including from Onana, the team has struggled to find consistent form.
The Red Devils will return to action after the international break with an away fixture against Brentford, hoping to reverse their fortunes.
Tayebwa’s meeting with Onana not only highlighted the support the club enjoys globally.
It also offered a glimpse into the resilience and determination of its players as they work through a challenging period.
