Cameroon has officially secured their place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, with Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, proving to be a fortress along their qualification journey.
The Indomitable Lions, led by Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana, clinched a crucial 1-0 victory over Kenya, courtesy of Boris Enow’s 63rd-minute goal.
It was the second time the 28-year-old goalkeeper was keeping a cleansheet at Namboole having kept the Zimbabwean at bay in a goalless stalemate at the facility the first time he played here in October.
Onana’s commanding performance in goal was instrumental in maintaining Cameroon’s dominance in Group J, as they booked their spot in next year’s tournament which is also a record 22nd qualification.
They lead the group with 10 points with a game to spare and will complete their qualification campaign with a home game against Zimbabwe in November.
Namboole has been a key venue for Cameroon’s qualification success, providing a stronghold for their campaign.
With qualification now in hand, Onana turns his attention back to the Premier League, where he will face Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, his Cameroon teammate, at Old Trafford this weekend.
Both players are in top form, with Onana having the most clean sheets in the Premier League and Mbeumo tallying six goals this season.
This pivotal matchup comes as the duo transitions from national pride back to club rivalries, highlighting their impact both for Cameroon and their respective clubs.
