Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has provided a candid account of his tumultuous relationship with manager Jose Mourinho, detailing their frequent clashes and his failed attempts to leave the club.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Pogba likened the dynamic between him and Mourinho to a “boyfriend and girlfriend” constantly breaking up and making up.
Pogba credited Mourinho with convincing him to return to Manchester United from Juventus in 2016. However, their relationship quickly soured, with Pogba frequently being benched and labeled a “virus” in the dressing room.
Despite the challenges, Pogba expressed respect for Mourinho and indicated a desire to address their issues in the future.
Pogba also revealed that he sought to leave Manchester United in 2019 after the departure of Mourinho.
He expressed his desire for a new challenge and claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was supportive of his request. However, the club ultimately blocked his exit.
Pogba also addressed his recent four-year doping ban, which was later reduced to 18 months. He accepted responsibility for taking a supplement without proper verification but argued that the initial punishment was too harsh.
