The Uganda She Cranes are raring to go as they prepare to take on the world’s best netball teams at the 2024 Fast5 Netball World Series in Christchurch, New Zealand.
After missing out on the 2023 tournament, the Ugandan squad is determined to make a statement return and leave their mark on the global stage.
The She Cranes, consisting of ten talented players, will depart for New Zealand in early November.
The tournament will feature a round robin format, ensuring that every team has the opportunity to compete against each other and vie for top honors.
Uganda will face stiff competition from powerhouses like Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, South Africa, and their regional rivals, Malawi.
Nisha, the team’s goalkeeper and goal shooter, expressed her excitement and confidence in the team’s ability to perform well at the Fast5 World Series.
“Despite a break from league action, we have been focusing on our fitness and technical skills,” she said. “The Fast5 format demands speed, consistency, and the ability to adapt to new rules. We have been working hard to improve our decision-making under pressure.”
Bagala Margaret, the team’s center, echoed Nisha’s sentiments, highlighting the importance of effective passing and shooting during power plays, where points are doubled.
“We have trained tirelessly and are in excellent physical condition,” she stated. “I have continued my training with my club, and I feel ready to take on this challenge.”
Assistant Coach Hassan confirmed that the team is in good shape and has been focusing on improving their strength, speed, and long-range shooting.
“We are determined to build on our previous performances and make a significant impact at the Fast5 World Series,” he said.
