Buddu emerged victorious in the 2024 Masaza Cup, edging Kyaggwe 1-0 in a packed Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on Saturday.
This marks Buddu’s third Masaza Cup title, joining the elite ranks of Bulemeezi and Mawokota as three-time champions.
The decisive goal came in the 23rd minute when Buddu’s Mike Walaga skillfully headed in a cross from captain Pius Ssebulime, securing their win in a hard-fought battle.
With this victory, Buddu adds to their titles from 2016 and 2021, with Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II in attendance for all three of their triumphs.
Buddu’s Milestone: With three Masaza Cup titles, Buddu joins Bulemeezi and Mawokota, who have also won the title three times.
Kabaka’s Presence: After missing the last two finals, the Kabaka returned to grace the 2024 final, his support a powerful symbol for the Buddu faithful.
Historic First for Kyaggwe: Playing in their first-ever Masaza Cup final, Kyaggwe showed impressive determination, and their fans look forward to another chance in future tournaments.
In the third-place playoff earlier in the day, Buweekula claimed victory over Kyaddondo, winning 3-1, led by a hat-trick from Shafik Nyanzi.
Buweekula’s Amoul Munogera was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Robert Ssewanyana of Buluuli emerged as the top scorer with seven goals.
