As the Uganda Premier League’s top two teams prepare to face off at Kitende, KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru is downplaying the hype surrounding their matchup with Vipers, calling it simply “a top-of-the-table clash” rather than a fierce rivalry.
Fans are eager for Saturday’s game, with KCCA currently leading the standings by a narrow margin of just one point over second-placed Vipers.
Despite the anticipation, Mubiru clarified during his press conference on Friday that the match doesn’t carry the weight of historic rivalries like those between KCCA and Express or Villa.
“To us, this is simply a top-of-the-table clash,” Mubiru stated. “We don’t see Vipers as a rival on par with the rivalries fueled by history, like Express and Villa.
“Apart from our teams’ strong followings, there’s no deeper rivalry. We’re just focused on competing and securing our position at the top.”
With KCCA sitting at 17 points and Vipers close behind with 16, Mubiru emphasized that KCCA is focused solely on maintaining its lead and isn’t interested in feeding rivalry narratives.
As the two sides take the field on Saturday, fans will witness KCCA’s determination to hold onto the top spot in the league, while Vipers are poised to leapfrog the Kasasiro Boys.
