Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has called on fans to maintain their unwavering support for the national team following a disappointing result against South Africa in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers on Friday.
In an open message to supporters, Put acknowledged the pain caused by the defeat but emphasized the importance of unity as the Cranes prepare for their final Group K match against Congo Brazzaville on Tuesday, November 19.
“I know that you’re hurting after the result of our match against South Africa last evening,” Put stated. “We didn’t give you the result expected of us, but please stay behind the Uganda Cranes team like you have always done.”
Put assured fans that he had communicated their sentiments to the players and expects a determined response in the upcoming game. “They should be able to react positively in our final group game against Congo. We will react like the true Uganda Cranes on the pitch next Tuesday.”
The Cranes have already secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but are seeking to finish the campaign on a high note.
A win against Congo in Brazzaville could see Uganda top Group K, depending on South Africa’s result against South Sudan.
Fans have been a critical source of motivation for the team throughout the qualifiers, and Put concluded his message with an appeal for continued support. “Keep with us on this journey,” he urged.
The Uganda Cranes will face Congo at the Stade Alphonse Massamba-Débat, on Tuesday with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM EAT.
