The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom’s MTN-sponsored Enganda Football and Amasaza Bicycle Races kicked off with a bang on Friday, November 22nd, at Jeeja Primary School grounds in Kigumba Town Council, Kiryandongo District.
The opening match of the football tournament saw Abaswasima emerge victorious over Ababworo with a decisive 2-0 scoreline.
The victory set the stage for a thrilling competition that promises to showcase the rich sporting talent within the kingdom.
Concurrently, the Amasaza Bicycle Races captivated the audience with intense competition between riders from Kibanda North and South Counties. The event highlighted the growing popularity of cycling in the region and the potential for nurturing future cycling stars.
Representing the Chief Guest, the Bunyoro Kitara Premier, Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mr. Katusabe Alex, officially inaugurated the tournament.
He commended MTN Uganda for their generous sponsorship and urged the people of Bunyoro to actively participate and support the events.
Mr. Katusabe stressed the importance of these competitions in promoting health and talent development within the kingdom.
He also revealed plans to establish bicycle racing clubs across Bunyoro, emphasizing the sport’s potential to instill discipline and foster a sense of community.
In his address, Mr. Katusabe also cautioned the participants against the dangers of drug abuse.
“Drugs will not help you but instead ruin your future,” he warned. “Stay focused and use the prizes or money you win wisely for personal and communal development.”
